Twenty-six and Twenty-seven

in Pregnancy,Second Trimester

Good morning friends!  I loved reading all of your thoughts on my love for Wegman’s :)  In fact, Erin even commented that she’s driven an hour to just get to a Wegman’s herself.  A girl after my own heart!

Time for another pregnancy update!  Seriously, what did I blog about before becoming pregnant? Oh right, running and hot yoga and other healthy thangs ;) Anyway.  Today I am 27 weeks along and Baby A is still the size of an eggplant (though I believe she is a bigger eggplant than she was at 25 weeks).  It’s kind of cool to be at the stage where the fruit/vegetable isn’t changing weekly- I think it’s like that from here on out.

A little bit about Baby A this week from the Alpha Mom Pregnancy Calendar (which is a must-read when you are pregnant- it is hilarious!)-

At 26 weeks:

Your Baby:

  • Is almost two pounds. Celebrate this milestone with a two-pound box of chocolates. You know, in order to really get a good VISUAL.
  • Remember those early bubbly butterfly kicks? Yeah. Those have been replaced by something akin to a rabid mongoose flippin’ out inside a burlap sack.
  • If you DO occasionally feel smaller, rhythmic movements in your belly, it’s probably your baby hiccuping. Babies actually get hiccups from late in the first trimester on, but most women don’t pick on them the second trimester or later.
  • All five senses are fully developed. Whoa.

At 27 weeks:

  • Hey! Remember when I told you your baby was as big as a gummy bear? Oh, about 19 or 20 weeks ago?
  • Now imagine a two-pound, 15-inch-long gummy bear. Yep.
  • Eyelids (which have been fused since 11 or 12 weeks) can now open and close.

Pretty cool stuff, eh?  I think it’s so neat that she can open and close her eyes now and that all five senses are fully developed.  We’re approaching the home stretch!

How far along? 27 weeks.

Total weight gain/loss: As of this morning I have gained 19 pounds, so I averaged 1.5 pounds/week over the past two weeks.  According to the books, the average weight gain at 26 weeks (which I was last week) is around 16-22 pounds.  So I’m right there in the middle!  I had a doctor’s appointment yesterday and apparently I’ve gained six pounds since my last appointment.  What can I say, Baby A obviously had a growth spurt ;)

Best moment this week: Hearing her heartbeat at the doctor’s office is always amazing.  People have started to receive my shower invites, which is fun!  Also, I made some big moves this week that I’ll get into in a later post ;)

Movement: She’s moving away!  She definitely has a pattern to her movements- she is typically the most active in the morning and at night.  This morning she was dancing around at 5:30 A.M.  Hopefully when she’s here she’ll be sleeping during that time (one can wish! :) )  At the doctor’s office yesterday the doctor remarked that she was laying in there lopsided.  It’s funny, I can definitely tell what side she is on sometimes based upon how the bump looks.  Super cool!

Stretch Marks: Still none.

The Bump:

Oy.  I’m going to blame the tired, swollen face from 27 weeks (this morning) on the fact that it was 5:45 A.M and I usually take the photos in the evening.  That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! ;)  Also, I haven’t highlighted my hair in a year and a half and my natural color is really starting to show! I swear it’s almost reddish.

What I’m excited about/looking forward to: Well, hopefully I’ll find out today that I passed the glucose screening test.  I’m also looking forward to some big things coming up.

Symptoms: Okay so I figured out the bathroom issue I was having- that week I had introduced decaf coffee back into my morning routine.  Duh Katie.  I may be a glutton for punishment because I couldn’t resist it this morning.  Also, I’m having some lower back pain and getting up from laying down and a seated position is becoming more and more interesting.  I’m hot as an mf during the night and sometimes wake up feeling so hot I could get sick!  I think I may or may not have experienced a hemmy last week but I’m not sure.  The symptoms aren’t always pretty but it’s all good :D

Food cravings: I haven’t really been craving much lately.  I have been noticing that I can’t take in too much food at once- there simply isn’t any room!

Gender: Girl :)

Sleep: Right now my sleep inhibitor is Mr. Bailey dog.  He has been waking me up a few times each night.  He’s lucky he’s cute!

Labor Signs: No, thank goodness!

Belly Button in or out? I think it may be flat soon!

What I miss: I’m not really missing much.  Maybe sleeping on my stomach?

Milestones: As of right now we are in the double digit countdown until Baby A is here!  That’s crazy!  Yesterday was three months to my due date-wow!  She is going to be here before we know it.  We have so much to get ready for!

Enjoy the rest of your week!  I have a maternity clothing essentials post in the works, so be on the lookout for that!  Happy Thursday :)

Your baby bump is SO cute on you!! Did you eat before your glucose test? Hope you pass- I’m sure you will! :) hope you don’t have to take the 3 hour like I did :p

It was at 2:45 so I had to eat- I had whole wheat waffles with plain greek yogurt, a luna bar and grilled cheese around 11. And I passed! Yay :)
