Training Begins!

Hi friends!  How’s it going?  Charleston is currently dealing with “bitter cold” temps in the 20s and 30s (at night- it’s 40/50 something during the day)- at least that’s what the newscasters say, haha.  They obviously haven’t spent a winter in upstate New York!

Before the cold front came in, I was able to get a glorious, OUTDOOR run in.  Hold the phone!  I haven’t run outdoors since I was around 25 weeks pregnant (and let’s face it, I probably could have walked faster) so it’s been awhile.  It feels good to be back!  Day one (!!) of my 10k training plan called for 2.5 miles.  Brian had the day off so I took advantage and headed outdoors.   While my endurance isn’t anywhere where it used to be, I was able to run the entire 2.5 miles without stopping.  Definitely a success in my book!  I finished the 2.5 miles in 28:46, which was around and 11:30/mile pace (or something like that).  It felt so nice to hit the pavement with the sun shining down.  My neighborhood is fairly large so I was able to run around and not run in too many circles.  I do want to find some local paths to run and take Audrey for walks on.

Later that evening I decided that I definitely wanted to do a CrossFit workout as well (hello two-a-day… well, kind of- I worked out twice!)   This one was so intense.  First of all, there were two effing warmups.  The first warmup was a 500 meter row, 15 (assisted) pushups, 15 (assisted) pullups, 15 abmat situps and 15 air squats.  Instead of doing the pushups on my knees, Bri finagled some contraption that allows some of my weight to be supported by a band, like so:

I think that doing modified pushups in this manner versus on my knees will help me get to proper pushup form sooner!

After that was the WOD (workout of the day) warmup, which called for 21/15/9 reps of knees to elbows and box jumps (ie, 21 knees to elbows and box jumps, then 15, then 9).  Ugh.  Holy hell do I hate box jumps.  I’m scared I’m going to break myself, and they’re hard.  In fact, our box is adorned with the phrase “Katie’s arch enemy”- Brian wrote this on it apparently after I kept bitching about them.

Bri made the box and it can be either 20 inches or 24 inches (that’s what she said).  I jump onto the 20 inch height but Brian is going to make another 18 inch box for me.

After that was over, I felt like the workout was pretty much complete.  But the actual WOD itself was 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 pullups/squats.  Basically, do ten squats and one pullup, then nine squats and two pullups, eight squats and three pullups (and so on).  I was SUCH a whiner at this point but Brian didn’t let up.  And I did it and felt really good afterwards!

DONE!

I think this every time- the workout sounds so crazy and intense but once I actually get it done I feel amazing and really proud of myself.  I just need to get over this whining phase!

Audrey, as always, was a trooper during the workout.

We also keep a dog bed out there for Bails but he wants nothing to do with it- I think the garage scares him.

Audrey turned 14 weeks old this week!

She loves her seahorse!

Time is flying.  During pregnancy I loved Thursdays because that was when the week changed.  Now I love Tuesdays because Tuesday marks another week older!

It seems like in the last few days her personality is coming out even more.  She is talking/cooing so much more and is such a little cutehead.  She loves to hang out on the changing table, and she even tolerates my singing!  Such a sweet girl :)

She’s adorable! And how sweet of her to let mommy get a workout in :) and way to rock those 2.5 miles!

I like Tuesdays for that reason too…and get those feet all the way on the box. I’m sure Brian told you that.

You will be surprised at how quickly your blood thins (I don’t think that actually happens) and you get used to the milder temperatures and what felt warm to you feels cold now. I’m constantly freezing in Georgia and Jason’s always asking me how I survived 4 years in Vermont!

I hate box jumps too. I have a mental block against them and have a very hard time jumping with both feet at the same time.

Congrats on the run!!! you look amazing! I love the last picture of Audrey- she is adorable!! I am thinking of training for a half in April and am nervous about it! I feel like I should just commit and do it but I am nervous about having to train on a treadmill. I hate them!

Nice job with the run!! Hahaha I’m glad to see some things never change – I had instant flashbacks and laughed out loud when I saw the “angry Katie” picture – too funny!

I could never do those box jumps! I worked out with a trainer over the summer and he made me do them and I am way too uncoordinated. It was terrifying- I fell off so many times!

Audrey is too cute! Love how she just watches you workout!

I love box jumps. Mainly because it’s one CrossFit move I can do without assistance. (Also love the kettlebells!) BUT I can understand why you don’t like them….your box is kinda big. lol. I miss doing CrossFit. You get addicted to “that feeling” when you’re done a hard workout. Love it!! Tell Brian I’m all in for a WOD if I come visit!

You are an inspiration, girl! Is the hubby for hire? I bet he would kick some serious booty as a trainer :)
Good for you on running 2.5 miles nonstop- every run is an accomplishment.

Our daughters are super close in age! Your girl is beautiful – isn’t it fun to see their personalities develop? I love how much more interactive & engaged she’s gotten I’ve the last 6 weeks or so!

I am happy you made it out for a run!!! And box jumps – they freak me out too! When my trainer has me do them I always hesitate at first!
