Three Month Post-Baby Body Update

Hi friends! (This post is going to be all over the place.  You’ve been warned ;) )

It’s been awhile, eh?  I’m really awesome at blogging with a baby, apparently.  There has been a lot going on though.  After a hectic first few weeks we are getting settled here in South Carolina.  My poor Bailey buddy broke his leg the third night here.  Brian was in Virginia driving back with the rest of our stuff so I was in complete freak out mode.  All is well now but damn that was traumatizing!  Bailey is now the proud owner of a metal plate in his leg.  He is badass now!

Our house is, for the most part, unpacked (we won’t talk about the extra room over our garage that serves as our box storage room for now, haha).  Life feels pretty normal again :)  We had a wonderful Christmas as a family of four (can’t forget Mr. B!).

Audrey is unimpressed with the photo shoots.

The last time I posted, Audrey was six weeks old.  It is hard to believe that my little girl is now three months old!  Time truly does fly.  She is such a cute, happy baby with so many funny facial expressions.  My favorite is her smile, of course- though it’s tough to catch it on camera.  I most often catch her serious look-

Isn’t she cute?

I have so many thoughts and post topics swirling around in me head- I’m excited to get back into blogging :) So, let’s start with a three month post-baby body update.  In awesome news, we are finally done with thrush (I think)- no more excruciating pain while breastfeeding, hooray!  Breastfeeding is going well and Audrey is starting to chunk up- she is now almost double her birth weight at a whopping twelve pounds.  At her two month checkup she was in the 34th percentile for weight and 71st for height.  Given that she was such a peanut when she was born (weightwise at least!) and that we had trouble with her gaining at first, I’m really excited about her progress! :)

As for me, I was cleared for exercise at my six week appointment (hooray!).  However, with the move and all of that I was only able to get one sorry little treadmill run in before we left (it was a mile and it was pretty bad, haha). Now that we are settled I am getting into somewhat of a routine- I’m running around two  miles at a time and engaging in some fairly intense (for me at least) crossfit workouts in our garage (Brian is a strict trainer!)  When we’re in the garage working out Audrey usually chills in her bouncy seat with us-

Or she’ll hang out on the rings, whatever ;)

I signed up for my first race post-baby- the Cooper River Bridge run 10k!  I’m really excited.  It’s on March 31st so I have around three months to get ready.  I’m going to loosely follow Hal Higdon’s 10k novice plan- it calls for runs three times a week so I’ll be able to still complete crossfit workouts. I’m officially starting training next week.  I feel like I’m essentially starting over with running, since two miles is a great workout for me now.  It’s hard to believe I used to run 5-7 miles effortlessly without the blink of an eye!

More three month things:

  • I’m officially back to my pre-pregnancy weight.  Yippee!  I got to my normal weight around 10 weeks postpartum.  I attribute it to breastfeeding and stress from the move and Bails breaking his leg.  My diet is fairly okay but I certainly am not eating as well as I was pre-pregnancy.
  • I did in fact get some stretch marks from the pregnancy- none on my stomach or hips but instead on the underside of my chest.  I never noticed them because I don’t really make a habit of inspecting the girls.  There are three or four little pink lines.  Makes sense since they grew a lot!
  • The linea negra (line going down my stomach) is fading quickly.
  • I am back in my pre-pregnancy clothes and jeans!  The jeans sit a little lower I think but I’m stoked- I don’t need to buy a new wardrobe!
  • I still have an inch or two around my waist to get back to normal.  Also, my stomach is still a bit “stretched out”, especially when I am sitting.  I don’t mind though because I am confident it will get back to where it was :)  The human body is amazing!
Photos-

Six weeks postpartum on the left, three months postpartum on the right.

Six weeks postpartum on the left, three months postpartum on the right.

As you can see, there isn’t really too significant of a difference.  I can see a slight one though, haha.  My goals are to get back into running shape so that running 5 miles is effortless, become strong enough to do a pullup…all sorts of things!  I suppose I should put together a 2012 goals list.  Put that on the to-do!

Hopefully I will be getting back to a blogging schedule of two to three times a week with my crossfit and 10k training updates, Audrey updates and life in general posts.  I’m looking forward to actively commenting on your blogs too (I’m reading, it’s just hard to type while breastfeeding haha). :)

I hope you are doing well and, as always, thanks for reading!

Six Week Post-Baby Body

by Katie on November 8, 2011

in Post-Baby Body

Hi friends!   I’m back with a post-baby body update.  Well, I probably shouldn’t say update since this is my first post about it but you get the gist.  I can’t believe Audrey is six weeks old- time flies!

Rockin’ an adorable outfit from her auntie- Baby Gap has the cutest clothes!

Things are going well over here.  We traveled down to South Carolina (baby’s first road trip!) and found a house to rent.  Audrey was an awesome traveler!  She basically slept the whole way both times, aside from when we stopped to feed her.  Love it!  We went out to eat multiple times and she just chilled in her carseat, sleeping.  I’ll take it while I can :)

Little miss has also been sleeping a bit longer these past few days- we had two 6-7 hour stretches in a row- yippee!  I hope I don’t jinx it.

In breastfeeding news, Audrey and I are dealing with thrush.  IT EFFING SUCKS.  It’s basically a yeast infection in her mouth (it doesn’t hurt her and there are only a few white bumps) and on my nips.  Fun.  It hurts so so badly.  Like hot lava shards of glass coming out.  I’m on a complicated regimen to combat this evil yeast (I had antibiotics during labor and I’m thinking this helped contribute to the thrush), involving monistat, vinegar rinses, acidopholus, grapefruit seed extract, diflucan, and boiling ALL THE THINGS.  Well, all the things that touch her mouth.  Plus some intense laundry duty.  My six week checkup is tomorrow and I’m hoping to get a stronger prescription of diflucan.  In the meantime, I’m still breastfeeding her and practicing deep yoga breaths to get through the pain.  Haha.  Thrush has brought me to tears and labor did not (though it almost did before the epidural), if that’s any indication of the pain level!

—-

So, my six week appointment is tomorrow.  Hooray!  I’m hoping to get cleared for exercise.  I finally stopped bleeding (TMI?  I have no shame) so I’m hoping I’m good. If cleared, I’m going to try out the treadmill tomorrow evening before Brian packs it up for the move.  Hopefully I still have some sort of endurance, though I highly doubt it.

I didn’t get the chance to take measurements before Audrey was born- I wasn’t quite anticipating her to be three weeks early, haha.  I do know that pre-pregnancy my waist (belly button) was 28 inches and my hips were 38.

At 36 weeks, I weighed 156 and the belly looked like this (35 week bare belly shot, as I didn’t take one at 36 weeks)-

Six weeks post-partum:

  • I’ve lost 21-22 pounds- 20 of which were gone by two weeks post-partum
  • My waist (belly button) is 30.5 inches
  • My hips are back to 38 inches (though I swear they sit differently now- clothes just don’t fit the same!)
  • I can fit into  my pre-pregnancy jeans but they aren’t exactly comfortable.  So I hit up old navy and purchased a sized up pair of jeans to wear comfortably until I (hopefully) get back to where I was.
  • My wedding band finally fits again!  Though I’m still a little swollen because it’s a bit snug.
  • I have five pounds to go until I hit pre-pregnancy weight.
  • I still have the linea negra (line going down my stomach).  It doesn’t bother me at all though.  I’ve heard it generally fades within a year.
Pictures-
Side-
I do have some pictures from two weeks post-partum for comparison but since I feel like a giant weirdo posting these pics as it is and I’m essentially wearing booty shorts and a nursing bra in the two week pics, I’m not going to post them.
The body is pretty amazing- I can’t believe how big my belly used to be!  I have a few inches  and five or six pounds to lose to get back to where I was.  It definitely won’t be from my diet- forget pregnancy, breastfeeding has made my appetite out of control!  I’ve never been this hungry!  I’ve also heard that if you are breastfeeding your bod can hang onto a few pounds, which is fine with me.  Who knows though, maybe my running and crossfit training will bring it down.  I’ll post my training plan and progress in the coming weeks.  I’m excited to get running again!  Yippee!
Thanks for reading!  I hope to get back to posting/commenting on all of your blogs soon!  We’re moving in the next few weeks so it’ll be hectic.  But fun! :)  Have a good one!

Four Weeks!

by Katie on October 26, 2011

in Uncategorized

Hi friends!  I can’t believe it’s been four weeks (and one day) since Audrey’s arrival- she’s growing up so fast!  She’s already out of newborn diapers and fitting into her cloth diapers.  I didn’t think I’d be using them this soon!  She’s going to be one month old tomorrow- that flew by :)

We are adjusting really well over here.  In fact, I’m feeling very together today since I was able to make dinner last night- my first time since Audrey was born (Brian’s been on dinner duty).  She happened to be napping at the right time so it worked out!

Life is good.  This past weekend I had my first time away from Audrey- I got a pedicure!  First time having my nails painted since pre-pregnancy.  It was weird to be away from her, even though it was less than two hours.  I’m not feeling too sleep deprived and I’m able to do things around the house (laundry etc).  I think Bailey thinks he’s getting the short end of the stick since I’m not taking him out as much.  He loves going for walks with us though- he prances around so happily.  I think it’s because he has cabin fever, haha.

So, tomorrow is Audrey’s one month birthday (well not birthday? I don’t know what to call it.  Anyway).  :)  It also means I’m one month postpartum (hello captain obvious).  I took pics at two weeks postpartum and I’m going to take some tomorrow and put together a body after baby post- what I plan on doing and how it’s working out.  I should be cleared to work out in two weeks and I can’t wait!!!  I’ve been walking and can do at least one pushup still (I only tried one, haha).

I spend the majority of my time breastfeeding.  I have a lot of thoughts on it and am going to put a post together soon.  It’s nice to have that bond with Audrey and it gives me an excuse to sit on the couch and watch Gilmore Girls dvds (I’m on season four :) )

So.  I have lots of pictures to share.  However, I have none of the nursery because we don’t really have a nursery.  Why, you ask?  We recently received word that we are moving!  I just moved down to Virginia Beach two months ago but Brian’s been stationed here for awhile.  So, it’s time to change duty stations.  Next stop- the low country!  Charleston, South Carolina to be specific.  We can’t wait!   It will be interesting moving with a two month old :)  I am especially excited because my best friend Christina lives there AND she is having a baby girl on or around December 3.  :)  Hooray for new adventures!

And now for some pictures-
She digs our favorite chair.
Frown face.
So damn cute.
I love this photo!
Hi, I’m four weeks old!
Have a great rest of the week!

An Update!

by Katie on October 14, 2011

in Uncategorized

Hi friends!  It’s been awhile.  Little miss A has been keeping me so busy that I haven’t really had a chance to blog.  My friend Melissa was asking when I was going to update and I told her I had so much to write about that it was overwhelming.  Her response- just post pictures!  So that’s what I’m going to do.  :D  A few things before some cute photo action-

  • Motherhood is amazing!  Audrey is a really sweet baby and (knock on wood) lets us get decent stretches of sleep at night.  Yippee!
  • I’m down 20 pounds and have 7 to go to be back to pre-pregnancy weight.  Woohoo!  Brian is working on a get back in shape plan for me (crossfit style) so I can’t wait to start that!  And getting back into running of course! I’m going to do a body after baby series (at some point, lol).
  • I’ve been using the belly bandit and I really like it- my stomach isn’t back to it’s normal self yet but it is getting there!
  • The pregnancy went by so quickly- it feels so surreal.
  • I have lots and lots of thoughts and posts in my head- newborn essentials, hospital bag essentials, birth story, and yeah, some recipes and things non-baby related too ;)
And now for some photos-
Heading home!
I hope to be back with some posts soon!  I hope all is well with everyone :)
