Tomorrow marks the anniversary of the day we left for Kauai (March 29th) and yesterday marked our first anniversary! I’m looking forward to celebrating with Brian once he returns home soon
Getting back to Kauai (can we go back please?!)
Thursday, April 1
This was another one of my favorite days (who am I kidding, every day was my fave!) because we didn’t really have any plans- we drove around and had a fun, spontaneous day! We started our morning at Kalaheo Cafe and Coffee Co, where we enjoyed the coffee and worked on our honeymoon journal.
Afterwards, we drove around for a few minutes and saw a sign for the Kauai Coffee Company. We love coffee and we figured it would be a good place to pick up some for ourselves and our friends/family to take home.
The grounds were gorgeous!
There was a welcome area with all sorts of artifacts that I didn’t really pay to much attention to- I was more interested in the free samples!
After sampling coffee, we took a self-guided tour around the grounds, where we saw the coffee plants and Brian practiced his headstands.
After spending way too much money in the gift shop, we hopped into the car to head back to the hotel. I definitely recommend stopping at the Kauai Coffee Company for an hour or two! On the drive back to the hotel, we saw a sign for Spouting Horn in Poipu. Spouting Horn is a neat place where the rocks are set up so the water pushes through it like a blowhorn on a whale. You can hear a hissing sound- it’s pretty eerie! At first, I was hesitant to get out of the car (we didn’t put sunscreen on yet!) but I’m glad we did. It was such a cool sight to see!
Before we left, I posed with my little bird friends.
At this point, it was lunch time and we were starving. We spied a roadside shrimp stand and figured why not?
Omg. Best shrimp ever! It felt weird purchasing from a random roadside stand (there weren’t any other food vendors around) but it was amazing! We ordered the garlic shrimp and a bahama shrimp with coconut milk and cilantro. Soooo good.
The rest of the afternoon we kicked it around the pool and enjoyed some beverages…
before heading to the luau! Unfortunately, the forecast called for rain so the luau was indoors. A lot of vendors were set up outside, a wise move- everyone was buying all of the items. I snagged two necklaces- one for me and one for one of my besties
The luau was fairly entertaining but honestly, I don’t think it was worth the price. We didn’t get the full effect because it was indoors, which was beyond the control of the performers.
The performers were awesome!
Towards the end of the show, the performers picked a few people from the crowd to come on stage and dance with them. Guess who was among those picked?
It was fairly embarrassing but all in good fun. Brian caught it on video and it’s hilarious to watch. I had no clue what I was doing and the guy told me just to “shake my hips as fast as I can.” I tried!
We hit the sack early, as we had an early wake up call the next morning to go scuba diving! All in all, a fantastic day.

I REALLY, REALLY want to go to Hawaii now after these fabulous recaps! Really, really actually isn’t a strong enough description, but you get me
I love the idea of keeping a honeymoon journal. What a great way to remember the details. Happy Anniversary Katie and Brian! xoxo
So I think I will need to visit Hawaii just to go to Kauai! I love that you can get free samples + walk around the grounds, how cool!
PS-Mr. Katie has tickets to the gun show–you go girl
bahahaha you are too funny- he may kill me for posting that pic
And yes, you definitely need to get to Kauai someday!
You got a lot accomplished this day! Spouting Horn is definitely on our list of things to do too.
Happy anniversary! Those pics of you dancing are too cute
Fun!! Those shrimp dishes sound amazing, but I could not believe that the Katie I know would willingly eat something out of a Savage Shrimp truck! Quite impressive if I do say so myself – way to be
dude, SO beautiful!! hope you had an awesome time
I am so jealous. i am freezing right now.
YEAHH I just love seeing people’s happy trips…plus it gets me excited to book one!
My brother and SIL got married in Hawaii and had a Luau reception. It was outside and really fun. Loving these recaps!
We’re going on a cruise for our honeymoon, but these Hawaii posts are making me want to go there! The only thing (in addition to the money) is that I have a limited amount of time off, and we can leave for a cruise without flying somewhere to do it.
Happy belated anniversary!
Ohh your Hawaii posts make me want to go back to our honeymoon there as well. Such an amazing place. The flight – not so fun. But it was worth it. Gorgeous, fun photos!
